Jay Nathwan emerges overall Arusha Open Golf 2024 Winner at Gymkhana

Jay Nathwan an ace golfer from the City has managed to clinch the overall victory in the just ended Arusha Open, an annual golf tournament organized by the Gymkhana Club. Nathwan grossed 221.

On the other hand, Felix Mrema with 150 net emerged the Junior Winner of Arusha Open 2024.

Bella Sikwattah, with 138 net was the tourney’s Lady winner.

The Area Member of Parliament, Mrisho Gambo issued prizes to the Arusha Open winners, insisting that the Golf tourneys could be yet another boost to domestic tourism in Arusha.

Meanwhile the government has now directed that golf training courses should be introduced in Primary Schools so that pupils can be introduced to this form of sport right from their tender ages.

That was revealed by the representative from the Tanzania Golf Union (TGU) Enock Magile, who graced the 2024 Arusha Open golf event at the Gymkhana Club.

“The Tanzania Golf Union has also started to provide golf training to teachers and students,” pointed out Magile, adding that the TGU will soon release a special curriculum to that effect.

According to the TGU official, this is being done in order to instill the sporting skills into younger generations.

Lauding the Arusha Gymkhana Club for maintaining the golf tourneys throughout the years.

Magile pointed out that the Prime Minister, Kassim Majaliwa is the one who recently ordered that Golf should be introduced in Primary and Secondary Schools.

The Premier had made the statement in Tabora while gracing the National Secondary Schools sporting competitions.

Meanwhile the Arusha Open 2024 golfing event, for the first time ran for three consecutive days.

“We should get used to the fact that all Golf Open tournaments will be held for three consecutive days as per directives from the International Rules of Golf (R&A) for participants to qualify for global amateur ranking,” said the TGU official.

As usual the three-day Arusha Open 2024 was sponsored by Reliance Insurance, with the event featuring a highly competitive 36-hole stroke play format.

Ravi Shankar the Chief Executive Officer of Reliance Insurance Company Tanzania Limited said the firm appreciates the honor of sponsoring the annual golf tourney in Arusha and will maintain their support to sporting events in the country.

Reliance Insurance has been supporting the Arusha Open Golf tourneys at the Gymkhana for the past six years.

Participants usually vie for coveted golfing titles, including overall gross winner, overall gross runner-up, overall net winner, and divisional winners.

The women’s category also competes for similar honors, with an increased number of prizes to boost women’s participation in golf.
