It will slightly rain in East Africa between October and December but temperatures may also get warmer

There have been plenty of rains during the first part of 2024, but the year is now ending on a much warmer and drier conditions.

The Inter-Governmental Authority on Development (IGAD) Climate Prediction and Application Centre (ICPAC) has released the regional weather forecast for the Eastern African Region, covering the months of October, November and December 2024.

Seasonal Temperature Forecast for October to December 2024

The final three months of the year, October, November and December will see warmer than usual conditions indicated over central to northern Sudan, Eritrea, Djibouti, most parts of Ethiopia, Somalia, most parts of Kenya, southern Uganda, Rwanda, Burundi, and most parts of Tanzania.

Normal to cooler than normal temperatures likely to be recorded over southern parts of Sudan, much of South Sudan, central to northern Uganda, western Kenya, north-western and south-western Ethiopia, and part of western Tanzania.

Seasonal Rainfall Forecast for October to December 2024

Wetter than usual conditions expected over southern South Sudan, south-western Ethiopia, central to western Kenya, most parts of Uganda, Rwanda, Burundi, and northern Tanzania.

Drier than usual conditions expected over South-Eastern Ethiopia, much of Somalia, Eastern Kenya, South-Western Uganda, Southern Tanzania, and coastal parts of Sudan, Eritrea and Djibouti.

October Rains Forecast

Wetter than usual conditions expected over southern areas of Sudan, South Sudan, Uganda, parts of western and northern Kenya, Rwanda, Burundi, and north-western Tanzania.

On the other hand, drier than normal conditions are expected in most parts of Southern Ethiopia, Somalia, the Kenya coastline and Northern coastal area of Tanzania, essentially Tanga.

The rest of the region is generally dry during the month of October.

Temperature Forecast for October 2024

Warmer than usual conditions expected over central to northern Sudan, Eritrea, most parts of Ethiopia, Djibouti, Somalia, most parts of Kenya, Tanzania, Rwanda, Burundi, western to southern Uganda, and western South Sudan.

Normal to cooler than normal conditions are expected in western Kenya, eastern to northern Uganda, much of South Sudan and southern Sudan.
