Mother and Son killed on spot as their newly imported car rams into a bus in Kilimanjaro region
A severed human head, belonging to a male person believed to be in his mid-thirties rolled out of a car boot, when rescuers attempted to dislodge an SUV vehicle which had crashed into a bus in Kilimanjaro region.
At least three people were killed on the spot when the vehicle they were traveling in, a privately owned Toyota RAV-4 with plate numbers, T-592 EKU rammed into a Yutong Bus, belonging to Esther Express Company.
“The car was totaled, the front badly crashed, so we attempted to retrieve the bodies inside by forcing open the rear trunk, upon which a severed human head rolled down from the boot,” says a witness.
The Moshi District Commissioner, Godfrey Mnzava confirmed the incident explaining that the deceased were three; two males and one female whose names are yet to be revealed.
The accident occurred at the Mdawi section of Kiborloni Ward in Moshi Municipality, Kilimanjaro Region, in the early hours of Saturday, the 1st of February 2025.
According to the eyewitnesses, the SUV with three passengers, including the driver, was hit from behind by an overtaking and speeding Kidia One bus with the rear impact catapulting the car forward where it came face to face with another passenger vehicle, the Esther Luxury Bus.
A young man a hired help Jackson Justin was driving the newly imported SUV from Dar-es-salaam to Arusha.
A retired lady teacher, Apaikunda Mathayo Ayo the owner of the vehicle sat on the left side while her son Mark Exaud Mbise rode in the back seat. They all perished.
The lady’s husband, Exaud Elipokea Mbise who was in Arusha when the incident occurred admitted that the deceased were his wife and son as well as the person who was driving.

The Esther Luxury bus was travelling from Arusha to Dar-es-salaam, via Moshi, while the black Toyota RAV-4 was travelling from Himo towards Arusha and behind it was the Kidia One bus heading to Arusha.
The head-on collision between the RAV-4 and Esther bus was deafening with the bus dragging the small vehicle for nearly 100 meters along the road after the deadly impact.
The Acting Kilimanjaro Regional Fire and Rescue Commander, Jeremiah Mkomagi said there were no injuries among the passengers who were on the Esther Bus, but the company had to send another bus to take them from the scene of the accident.
