The Immediate former President of Kenya, Emilio Stanley Mwai Kibaki is dead.
Mwai Kibaki who served as the Head of State for the East Africa’s largest economy for ten years between December 2002 and April 2013 died at the age of 91 on the 22nd of April 2022.
The death announcement was made by President Uhuru Kenyatta on Friday from State House, Nairobi.
Kibaki succeeded the late President Daniel Arap Moi, the longest serving Kenyan President, when the latter retired in 2002.
Kibaki also served as Vice President of Kenya, under President Daniel Arap Moi for ten years between 1978 and 1988 before Moi replaced him with Josephat Karanja, relagating Kibaki to Minister of Health.

When Moi retired in 2002 he recruited Uhuru Kenyatta to succeed him, but Mwai Kibaki managed to thrash him during the December Elections.
Kibaki was to win again in the disputed 2007 General Elections against Raila Odinga.
