Former DR Congo President, Kabila returns to Kinshasa

The immediate former President of the Democratic Republic of Congo, Joseph Kabila has announced his intention to return to the now troubled country ‘without delay!’

His recent declaration fuels long-existing speculation that Kabila, who has been out of the Congo for more than 12 months now, could be paving own way for another run for DRC presidency.

In a written statement issued in the course of this week, Joseph Kabila says his intention to return to Kinshasa has been necessitated by the ongoing security and governance situations in the Eastern African country.

“Given the deterioration of the security situation across the country, as well as the decay that is plaguing all sectors of national life, I have decided to return to the country without delay,” Kabila states.

Joseph Kabila also disclosed that he will be proceeding to as far as Eastern Parts of the DR Congo, the most troubled territory of the country which is still plagued with ongoing war.

“I decided to start with the eastern part of DR Congo, because there are problems there,” Kabila maintains. It was only left for him to declare that he could be joining the fray soon.

This announcement for imminent homecoming of the former Head of State comes amid growing tensions in the Eastern parts of the DR Congo, where the Congolese Armed Forces (FARDC) continues to fight the coalition of Congo River Alliance and March 23 rebel groups.

On the other hand, Joseph Kabila’s intention to return also comes in light of his party, the People’s Party for Reconstruction and Democracy (PPRD) that recently relaunched their political agenda during the party’s 23rd anniversary, six years after the defeat in the 2018 DRC Presidential elections.

At one time last year, Kabila was pictured with Moïse Katumbi, the other Congolese Politician, former Governor, Presidential aspirant and businessman in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

It is now known what Kabila and the president of the Together for the Republic party talked about, but it seems the former political rivals were ready to unite against the current DRC leader Felix Tshisekedi.
