The immediate former President of the Democratic Republic of Congo, Joseph Kabila has reiterated that the only solution to the ongoing conflict in the country is for the current President, Felix Tshisekedi to resign.
Kabila, who grew up in Tanzania, is apparently rejecting all appeals for the proposed Negotiations in the war-torn DR Congo.
The former republican President Joseph Kabila through his party statement was quoted as insisting that Felix Tshisekedi must step down from power and allow the people of DR Congo to form their own preferred lineup of leadership.
Joseph is the son of the other former DRC President, Laurent Kabila who was assassinated in 2001 after ruling for less than five years, following the toppling of Mobutu Sese Seko.
After his father’s death, Joseph Kabila took over the State House at Kinshasa from 2001 to 2019.
Now, Kabila’s Political Party, the People’s Party for Reconstruction and Democracy, known in French as Parti du Peuple pour la Reconstruction et la Démocratie (PPRD) has just released an official statement to that effect.
The PPRD dispatch came in response to a recent call by the Catholic Church in the country to unite the all-political movements in the Democratic Republic of Congo through dialogue.
“As far as the PPRD is concerned there will be no ultimatums, the only option we have is for the resignation of Félix Tshisekedi,” said the party statement.
“If Tshisekedi still loves the DR Congo, then he should do the country a favor by stepping down and allowing the Congolese people to reorganize themselves promptly,” the PPRD secretary general Ferdinand Kambere maintained.
The People’s Party for Reconstruction and Democracy (PPRD) insists that as much as Tshisekedi was legitimately elected as president, he should apply the same democracy in respecting the citizens’ voice and resign to let them form another government.
The development comes just as DR Congo is filing a case against Rwanda at the African Court in Arusha.
