Rape cases ranks high in the number of what was described as offences against a person recorded by the Tanzania Police Force as well as the National Bureau of Statistics.
Forced sex accounted for 7263 crime cases reported in the course of last fiscal year, while murder cases ranked second with 2225 such offences, according to both the TPF and NBS.
The lists also include ‘Un-natural Offences’ which had 1205 cases being documented in the course of the year 2020.
Issues of Children being kidnapped or stolen are slowly but surely also becoming rampant in Tanzania with 84 such cases being reported in that period.
There were 52 defilement cases billed in that year.
Human trafficking is also a problem, albeit a small one but still something to be concerned about because the TPF and NBS data records 19 such cases.
On the other hand reports from the Legal and Human Rights Center (LHRC) indicate that there have been 26,544 Gender Based Violence attacks against women within the year 2020 alone.
The center also documents cases of more than 32 women that were killed by their partners within the same period.
Some 7263 women were also violently raped in the course of last year.
In another development the Global Youth and Development Organization; Deutsche Stiftung Weltbevolkerung (DSW), in Tanzania, reports that the country recorded 4397 cases of children being sexually defiled to the extent of being badly hurt.
Such offences against children were committed by mostly the people close to the minors, include own relatives, guardians and even mentors.
