Kenya Chief of Defence Forces Killed as Military Chopper crashes in West Pokot

At least five people have been killed after a military chopper belonging to the Kenya Defence Forces crashed in the Western parts of the country before erupting in flames.

General Francis Ogola, the Kenyan Chief of Defence forces is reported to be among the dead victims of the crash

The Kenyan Government Spokesperson, Isaac Mwaura on confirming the incident warned against any further speculations regarding the incident.

Captain Mohammed Karro Sora  from Heilu Moyale Marsabit was the pilot pictured below of the fateful KDF helicopter, who was also killed in the crash.

Early reports from Nairobi indicate that the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) helicopter crashed on Thursday afternoon of April 18, 2024.

The chopper, after crashing in the Sundar location of Western Kenya, caught fire on the border of West Pokot and Elgeyo Marakwet counties.

According to the Kenyan police, five passengers of the chopper, who were said to be army officers, were killed on the spot, in the tragic accident.

Three officers were however rescued from the burning salvage and rushed to hospital.

The trio had apparently survived with serious injuries as they got airlifted to hospital.

Elgeyo Marakwet County Commandant Peter Mulinge confirmed the incident, adding that the ill-fated aircraft was among three choppers that were flying from the Cheptulel area that afternoon.

It was the first to take off from the area, but shortly after it came crashing down with a bang.

According to the county police boss, the Kenya Defence Forces, authorities have cordoned off the entire scene of the helicopter crash.

Government spokesperson Isaac Mwaura has also said on social media that a statement would be issued soon.
