Fear descends on Malawi after Vice President goes missing in a lost military aircraft

Malawian President Lazarus Chakwera has shelved his plans to visit the Bahamas after his Deputy went missing in a plane which disappeared from radar.

Fear has descended on Malawi after the aircraft carrying the country’s Vice President is still missing after going off the plane detector hours ago.

The aircraft was carrying Malawi’s Vice-President Saulos Chilima and nine others persons, according to an official statement from the country’s State House.

The Malawi Defence Force plane was reported missing shortly after flying from the capital, Lilongwe, on Monday morning and until dusk the aircraft and its passengers were nowhere to be seen.

The president ordered a search and rescue operation after aviation officials were unable to contact the aircraft.

The Vice-President and his entourage were supposed to land at Mzuzu International Airport, in the country’s northern precinct just after 10:00 local time.

After being informed of the incident, Malawi’s President Lazarus Chakwera cancelled his scheduled flight to the Bahamas.
