DR Congo Rebels warn Tshisekedi against counterattacks in North Kivu

The Coalition of rebels in Goma has sent some bad news to the DR Congo President.

They are warning the Kinshasa State House against trying to counterattack the joint Alliance Fleuve Congo and M23 military groups otherwise face dire consequences.

The Congo River Alliance and the March 23 Rebel groups form the Politico-military coalition and through their leader Corneille Nangaa, have sent a firm statement to President Félix Tshisekedi saying their forces remain committed to ensuring that civilian populations are safe even as Tshisekedi and his government continue to issue threats of leading attacks in the liberated North Kivu region.

“We remind the regime sitting in Kinshasa City that the AFC and M23 coalition remains firmly committed to protecting all populations of the liberated areas; contrary to Kinshasa’s threats of attack,” Nangaa declared.

“We would like to inform Tshisekedi that he has neither the means nor the capacity to conduct an offensive against these areas. If he risked it, he would solely assume full responsibility for the consequences,” the statement reads.

Tshisekedi is meanwhile reported to be seeking military support from Southern Africa Development Community (SADC) countries to help him defeat the joint Congo River Alliance and March 23 forces.

So far the rebel groups boast to have captured over 40,000 of Armed Forces of the Democratic Republic of the Congo (FARDC) soldiers.

The captured military personnel have reportedly been taken aboard the AFC/M23 forces for re-training and groomed to join their rebellion against the ruling government of Kinshasa.
