DR Congo Rebel leaders will soon be flying to Doha, Qatar

Corneille Nangaa, the leader of the rebels’ coalition which is fighting against the government in the Democratic Republic of Congo has received an invitation from Qatar, to attend peace-oriented talks in Doha.

The charismatic Nangaa who heads the Alliance Fleuve du Congo (AFC) and the March 23 Rebels coalition has reportedly been invited by the Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad Al Thani.

Apparently, the Emir of Qatar wants an audience with the two rebel leaders in Doha.

According to sources from Eastern DRC, the Emir of Qatar intends to discuss with the joint AFC and M23 rebels about the current situation prevailing in the Eastern provinces of DR Congo with the view of finding a lasting peace solution.

The Tanzania Times has so far learned that the AFC and M23 rebels have since accepted the invitation from Qatar.

Corneille Nangaa and his fellow leader General Bertrand Bissimwa are therefore set to travel to Doha in the coming few weeks.

However, it is not known from which airport or country the rebel leaders will be flying from, because at the moment the M23 officials are the most wanted persons in the DR Congo.

It is also yet to be known how the safety of the two leaders will be guaranteed while abroad and what will happen with the forces left behind in DR Congo during their trip to the Middle East.

Last week, the Emir of Qatar managed to bring together two East African leaders who have been at loggerhead.

Emir Al Thani held meetings with both DR Congo President, Felix Tshisekedi and Rwandan Head of State Paul Kagame and the trio discussed the situation in the Eastern parts of the Democratic Republic of Congo.
