DR Congo Crisis: Former President, Kabila says M23 are not puppets of foreign nations

Former President of the Democratic Republic of Congo, Joseph Kabila is breaking silence by proposing his own direct solution to the ongoing security crisis in the DRC.

In a statement issued from his new Twitter account, the former DR Congo leader corrected the narrative being peddled by Félix Tshisekedi and his cohorts claiming that the M23 rebels are merely anarchists and puppets of Rwanda.

As far as Kabila is concerned, restoration of peace and stability does not require a military approach against M23 rebels who are fighting for their deserved rights being bonafide Congolese citizens.

“To restore peace and stability in the eastern regions of the DRC, it is essential to resolve the issue of national and foreign armed groups present on the Congolese soil,” Kabila proposes.

“However, contrary to what the authorities in Kinshasa want everyone to believe, the crisis is not limited to actions thoughtlessness of the M23,” Kabila maintains.

He is also not happy that the rebels are being presented solely as a bunch of anarchists, puppets of a foreign state without legitimate claims of their own.”

“Not even to a simple disagreement between two neighbouring countries, the DRC and Rwanda,” the former president writes on X.

According to Kabila, the situation in the east is multidimensional; involving numerous armed groups, historical tensions as well as political, ethnic and economic factors far deeper than Rwanda’s perceived influence alone.

In another development, the Alliance Fleuve du Congo (AFC) and M23 Rebels have condemned the DR Congo armed forces (FARDC) and their supporting missions for continuously disregarding the ceasefire agreement.

In a statement issued recently, the AFC and M23 politico-military coalition says it is ready to come to the dialogue table for the purpose of peace in eastern DR Congo.

However, the rebels have regretted that the DRC government supported by the militia groups and the Burundi army have continued to reinforce in preparation of full scale war.

The AFC and M23 movement also condemns the violation of human rights and continuous attacks on civilians by the FARDC through their continuous operations.
