A Dar-Es-salaam based gospel singer Goodluck Gozbert has set his Mercedes Benz C-Class sedan on fire, saying it has brought him bad luck.
As it happens, the vehicle was presented to the bubble-gum singer by the Arusha-based Christian minister, Prophet Geor Davie Kasambale of the Ngurumo ya Upako Ministry which operates from Kisongo area.
Three years ago, the gospel singer visited the Minister’s church in Arusha on the prophet’s invitation and even took to the stage to belt his popular numbers.
So impressed was Geor Davie with Goodluck’s performance that the prophet awarded the artist with a brand-new Mercedes Benz vehicle to aid his career, which sometimes takes him traveling distances.
The singer wept with joy and emotions when Geor Davie gave him the car at the latter’s residence, together with cash money 2 million/- for fuel and new tires.
But much to most people’s surprise, in January 2025 the artist who belted ‘Shukhran,’ shot a live video of him not singing but rather setting the Mercedes Benz T-256 DRC on fire and reducing the vehicle down to a debris of metallic shell and ashes.
But strangely, the car which the prophet handed to the singer was a silver Daimler but the vehicle which was pictured burning in the video was a dark blue sedan.
The decision to reduce the expensive ride into ashes has been received with mixed reactions from Tanzanians.
There are some who feel the artist was using the incident to attract attention and boost his faltering career.
Others believe his story that the vehicle was causing him trouble and needed exorcising.
The artist has come up with a story that ever since he was presented with the car by the prophet, his singing career took a nose dive and never recovered.
“The food I ate at the prophet’s house and the car he presented to me were all wrong inputs to my mission and that particular altar did not suit the God I am serving,” the Singer claimed.
It seems some people advised the singer to torch the car as it was likely to be the culprit behind his misfortunes.
