The new Dar-es-salaam’s over the sea motorway, the Tanzanite Bridge, which was inaugurated on the first day of February 2022, is capable of handling 55,000 motor vehicles per day.

Measuring 1.2 kilometers’ long, the bridge connects three tracks, the Obama Road, Toure Road and Kenyatta Road onto the Coco Beach area and was constructed at the cost of 242 Billion/- (Tanzanian shillings).
South Korea’s GS Engineering undertook the project.

In another development, Tanzania is planning to build another bridge in Jangwani area, at the section of Morogoro Road passing through the Msimbazi River Basin in Dar-es-salaam city.
The proposed new Jangwani bridge, to stretch at nearly 400 meters, is expected to cost TZS 276 Billion upon completion.
Reliable sources reveal that Tanzania intends to ink a US $ 120 Million loan agreement for the intended project.
The Bridge is being built to solve the long-existed problem of floods, usually affecting the valley during rainy seasons, especially monsoons.
Currently in the preparation process, the project entails construction of the new bridge and dredging of the river extending from Kawawa road to Selander Bridge so as to allow easy flow of rainwater into the Indian Ocean.
