Funds amounting to more than 95 million/- have been raised in this year’s Charity Golf tournament recently held at the Dar es Salaam Gymkhana course in Tanzania’s coastal city.
The 18-hole golfing tourney in Dar attracted a total of 72 golfers.
The sporting event was organized by the Mzizima Lions Club of Dar es Salaam.
According to Shanti Shah, a member of the Mzizima Lions Club, the Le Grande Group of Companies highly contributed in making the sporting fundraiser a success.
“We had a bumper entry of 72 golfers who participated and we managed to raise over 95 million shillings, thanks to Le Grande group of companies and the other 45 donors,” said Lion Shah.
Played in a stable ford format, the 18-hole tournament saw Jesse Cannel beating tough rivals to emerge the event’s overall winner after posting 38 points.
“We congratulate the winners and all golfers who participated in this tournament,” added Lion Shah.
The Dar es Salaam-based Mzizima Lions Club was formed nearly three decades ago in 1995.
Since then the Lions Club has been conducting philanthropic health services including over 50 eye treatment camps in Dar-es-salaam, Arusha, Dodoma and various parts of rural Tanzania.
“During these special Eye Camps, we also distribute free spectacles plus Eye Drops and so far, have conducted over 6000 cataract surgeries all free of charge,” the Lion revealed.
“In order to provide free eye treatments including surgeries, the Lions usually spend between 25 and 30 million/- per single eye camp,” said Shah.
But in addition to free sight oriented health services, the Mzizima Club has been providing clean and fresh drinking water to 21 learning institutions, reaching out to around 46,000 pupils and students on a daily basis.
Members of the Mzizima Lions Club would therefore like to express gratitude to the donors, well-wishers and the management of Gymkhana Club as well as with all golfers, because without their support this fund-raising tournament would not have been possible.
