Catholic Church in Tanzania bans non-liturgy and other secular interference during sermons
Just like what Jesus Christ did in the temple, the Catholic Church is turning tables within all its worship houses.
Catholic council of bishops in Tanzania is restricting secular interferences during church functions across the country.
The Catholic Church in Tanzania has banned all non-liturgy commentaries during masses, sermons and from all other religious functions across the country, cutting out secular interference from apostolic activities.
An official statement from the Liturgy Department of the Tanzania Episcopal Conference (TEC), explains the new development as one of the steps taken to review, adjust, amend and essentially improve the conduct of church activities.
These include all Sunday masses and other public sermons being administered across the dioceses of the country’s largest and most influential Christendom Denomination.
The new directive from the Secretariat of the Council of Bishops, was signed by Bishop Simon Masondole from the Bunda Diocese, who serves as the Chairperson of the Church’s Liturgy Department.
But for other observers, the decision which was reached during the TEC Plenary Assembly, is being translated as the move by the church to cut out commercial breaks and politics from religious functions.
This new development will also barricade politicians who of late have been using pulpits to promote their personal causes and even conduct campaigns in the houses of worship, hiding under the shadows of being welcomed to ‘greeting members!’
While the Catholic Church has taken the logical stance in the move to protect its members from outsiders with other motives, other Christian denominations are yet to declare their own positions regarding the influx of politicians in their worship houses, especially now that Tanzania is gearing towards ‘General Elections,’ slated for October 2025.
In another development, the Catholic Church in Tanzania is conducting a mass session of prayers for the country in all its dioceses and synods, a marathon which starts from the Sunday starting on June 23, 2025, in the supplication for peace.
