Arusha plans the third stadium in the city ahead of AFCON 2027

Arusha is planning to build yet another stadium, close to the area where Tanzania intends to construct the envisaged AFCON 2027 sporting facility, bringing the number of stadia in the city to three and counting.

The new multi-purpose stadium is being built in the Burka area, in the outskirts of the City, under the Arusha District’s Sports Arena and Youth Training Center in association with Talented Kids Program and the Future Stars Academy.

Priscus Silayo is the Sports Officer for the Arusha Rural District, who explained here that they have set aside more than eight acres for the proposed stadium whose construction is expected to start in October 2024.

“We intend to use the center as a sports training center for young talents in addition to hosting a number of regional, national and international sporting events,” said Silayo, during the occasion to officially hand the plot to the contractors.

On his part the Director of Future Stars Academy, Alfred Itaeli said the new stadium will complement the AFCON matches in 2027 because it can be used by teams for warm up soccer matches preceding the continental extravaganza.

The new sports arena is located very near to the place where the proposed AFCON stadium is going to be constructed.

Itaeli added that the first phase of the arena construction starts in October 2024 and that; they were anticipating more stakeholders to join hands in supporting the project.

“The adjustable Multipurpose Sports centre will feature various pitches including three internationally sized, soccer pitches, basketball courts, netball fields, rugby, volleyball and swimming,” he added.

The Youth Sports Center will also have classrooms for theory training in various games.

It will also be the official arena for the annual East African Youth Soccer tourney, known as Chipkizi Cup usually organized by Future Stars.

So far Arusha has the Sheikh Amri Abeid Stadium, but the second international sporting arena for the forthcoming Africa Cup of Nations is soon going to be constructed, and again the third stadium is already in the works.
