Arusha DC teams thrash Longido counterparts in Ace Africa Football League for Tanzanian schools
The girls’ team from Losinon Primary School in Arusha-Rural District, emerged the winner of Ace Africa Football League after beating Orbomba team from Longido 2-0, during the final match of the games.
On the other hand, the Oldonyosambu Boys team of Arusha DC topped the finals having also thrashed Kimokouwa Primary School team of Longido, 2-0 in the league which involved schools from Longido and Arusha Rural District Councils.
Meanwhile, the outstanding girl player in the Primary Schools matches was named Einoth Lazaro, while Japhet Saiko emerged the best footballer in the boys’ category.
A total of eight youth soccer teams for Under-16 players, participated in the Ace Africa Football league held at the Mringa Secondary School grounds in Ngaramtoni area of Arusha-Rural District Council.
The Ace Africa Country Director, John Emmanuel explained during the event that the project wants to encourage sports among school pupils in East Africa as it is their right.
“At Ace Africa we also work to promote soccer and other games among young girls who in the past used to be left out and only served as cheerleaders,” explained Emmanuel.
The Sports Officer for the Arusha Rural District Council, Priscus Silao lauded the initiative from Ace Africa and promised that his office will cooperate with all stakeholders to ensure that children become active in all types of games.
Ace Africa has also been donating sports gear, like uniforms, balls, sports shoes and other equipment in order to encourage and boost sporting activities in schools.
Maria Edwin Kayeta is the coordinator of the Ace Africa Football League who explains that sports are part of the child development initiatives.
“The league is supported by the Sports.Opportunities.Lives, abbreviated as SOL,” said Maria Kayeta, adding that sports is also a form of employment for the youth.
Ace Africa (AA), is a Registered International Non-Governmental Organization operating in Kenya and Tanzania and a Registered Charity in the United Kingdom and the United States.
According to Kayeta, the organization also caters for community development, education, sports, health, rural economy, child development and the rights of children.
