Kenya and Tanzania have locked horns in the 15th Installment of the East African Youth Soccer tournament, the Chipkizi Cup, in which each country won a total of four trophies in various categories of matches.
Kenya managed to win in mostly the boys’ squad, with its teams, the Lace-Up Academy, winning the Under 7 category, while the Soccer Talents won the Under 15 sector, Dream Soccer Academy shone in the Under 11 and Soccer Africa took the Under 9 trophy.
Tanzania, on the other hand, took the Under 11 Girls soccer victory through the Future Stars Academy of Arusha as well as the Under 20 girl’s football crown which went to the Fountain Gate of Dodoma.
Tanzania also raked in a couple of boys’ teams’ trophies through the Fountain Gate of Dodoma which shone in the Under 17 category, and the Tanzanite Academy of Morogoro which took the Under 20 trophy.
A total of 330 football teams from Kenya, Uganda, Zambia, Zimbabwe, Zanzibar and the host Tanzania,
The ‘Kick It Soccer Academy,’ from Uganda won the Under-15 boys soccer trophy.
From Zanzibar it was the Dulla Academy which took the Under 13 Crown, the team won in the Under-11 category during last year’s Chipkizi Cup.
Organized by the Future Stars Sports Academy (FSA) of Arusha, the annual Chipkizi Cup which was held in Arusha for an entire week produced various young talents who will now be drafted into even bigger teams in Africa and overseas.
“The East African Youth Soccer tournament targets to celebrate talents and the events never disappoint, Chipkizi Cup has been producing new talents in soccer and remains the ultimate platform for growing fresh players from the continent,” said Alfred Itaeli the Director of Future Stars.
The Chairperson of Arusha Regional Football Association (ARFA), Zakayo Mjema graced the Chipkizi Cup finals ceremony expressed satisfaction with the trend of the East African Youth soccer tournament.
“These events have been transforming Tanzania into a factory which manufactures, as well as bringing together new, young and fresh football talents from the Eastern African Region and who eventually get opportunities to play overseas,” stated Mjema.
