An ammunition stronghold exploded in the Misrata city of Libya on Sunday night, raising fears among residents.

While the extent of the damage and casualties is yet to be confirmed, early reports indicate that more than six people have been injured in the incident.

The deafening explosion occurred at the ammunition depot in Misrata, according to Mohammed Al-Nihoum, the spokesperson for the Misrata Medical Center, which is treating the blast victims.

So far, authorities have declared an emergency in the city.

Observers reveal that the ammunition stronghold burst into flames in the Al-Skirat area.

It is yet to be known if the incident was an accident or sabotage.

Of late, the already troubled Libya has been experiencing some rising tensions in the country’s major cities.

Meanwhile the Libyan Presidential Council and Military Arrangements Committee affirmed their commitment in enhancing stability in the North African Country.

The Committee stressed that all military and security activity must remain within the framework of legitimacy, warning that any action outside this is a serious violation and highlighted the need for strict adherence to the ceasefire to protect lives, property, and ensure the continuation of political and security processes.

Their joint statement reveals that all units were urged to return immediately to their camps, avoid unilateral moves, and refrain from illegal deployment in cities.

Again, the Committee confirmed ongoing coordination with the Chief of Staff and security agencies to confront threats to national unity and civil peace, reassuring the public that necessary measures are in place.

The statement from the committee concluded that Libya, as a country and nation, is not about to be used as an arena for settling personal scores, individual agendas or imposing mandates by force.

All parties have therefore agreed that the solution lies in cooperation between all national institutions in Libya.
