Tanzania is sending a team of six to take part in the global Homeless World Cup in Norway.
Tanzania, which hosted a similar African event in 2024 in the Northern City of Arusha, is also for the first time participating in the global, Homeless World Cup 2025, taking place in the Oslo City of Norway.
The 20th edition of the Homeless World Cup sees 40 men’s and 23 women’s teams from 48 countries gathering in Norway.
The Homeless World Cup are specialized soccer events that also involve girls that come from deprived communities or those facing challenges in society in a bid to discover and promote their talents as well as giving the female gender more opportunities in sports and outdoor activities.
“Girls fall under the vulnerable gender as in most cases they never get the chance to actively participate in sports,” stated the team’s Head Coach, Eva Gabriel Mmari.
Tanzania is sending to Norway a delegation of six envoys, among them four players and two officials from Future Stars Academy in Arusha, that will be representing the country at the Oslo event.
Eva Gabriel who teaches the Future Stars girls’ team, said they are departing Arusha for Oslo on the 21st of August, ready for the games that starts on the 23rd of August and runs all the way to the 30th of August 2025.
“We shall have three players and one goalkeeper as is the nature of any homeless world cup match, usually comprising a team of four personalities in the field,” stated Eva, adding that the delegates have all undergone gender awareness training.
In the Tanzania delegation there is a team captain Aloyce Dismas and the goalkeeper is Susana Paulo Michael, while the other two players are Debora Aggrey Temu and Varian Issa Swaleh.
The first Africa Women Cup, organized by the Homeless World Cup was held at the Arusha International Conference Centre (AICC) grounds in Kijenge ward of Arusha in 2024 and Uganda won the event.
In 2025 the Homeless World Cup took place in Nairobi, Kenya with Uganda emerging the winner again, defending their title.
Homeless World cup It is a special kind of soccer played in cubicles and featuring just eight players, four on each side of the game.
“We have managed to reach out to many schools and encourage young girls to participate in sports and we are glad that Homeless has given us a chance to participate in global competitions and run gender programs,” said Susan Malisa, the administrator of Future Stars.
