As Rwanda hosts 250 immigrants from the United States, East African Countries need to be worried

It seems Rwanda will now agree to receive at least 250 deportees from the United States under a new arrangement being hatched between Kigali and Washington.

The Government of Rwanda under President Paul Kagame has reportedly inked and sealed a new agreement with the United States in which the U.S Government will be able to ship a total of 250 immigrants to Kigali.

The type of deportees that the United States plan to send to the East African Country are the immigrants that their countries of origin have refused to take them back after being thrown out of America.

But before being put on an African bound plane and sent to Rwanda, for the planned resettlement each of the deportees will first have to undergo vetting tests in the United States.

That will also be a lengthy exercise, involving the scrutinizing of each immigrant, with the majority of them being unwilling, but eventually those that get approved will receive job training, housing and healthcare support in Rwanda.

But here is the catch; the signed deal apparently also allows deportees to move freely and even leave Rwanda voluntarily, whenever they wish as they will not be detained.

For observers, Rwanda may just serve as a dispersal area for the assorted immigrants who are likely to use the country as a portal through which they can infiltrate into other countries, with the East Africa ones being more susceptible.

Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda need to brace for the influx of foreigners rejected by Uncle Sam and who may find Rwanda too small for them.

But for starters, the United States government will be providing financial support to help with their reintegration in Kigali.

However, how much Washington is prepared to invest in this relocation scheme remains undisclosed.

Rwanda now becomes the third African country, after South Sudan and Eswatini, to enter a secretive immigrants’ deportation deal with the United States

A member of the East African community, Rwanda had previously signed a similar immigrants’ deportation deal with the United Kingdom (UK), but which was later to be scrapped.
