Tarangire National Park in Tanzania will be battling it against Amboseli National Park of Kenya in the newly introduced, elephant-based category of the World Travel Awards 2025.
This year the World Travel Award (WTA) has included the new voting category. This is Africa’s Leading Elephant Paradise National Park 2025.
The World Travel Awards is hosting the WTA Africa and Indian Ocean Gala Ceremony 2025 in Tanzania, being attended by travel industry leaders from across the continent and beyond.
In the Category there are four nominees are vying for the WTA shield, these include, Addo Elephant National Park of South Africa, the Amboseli National Park in Kenya, Hwange National Park of Zimbabwe and the Tarangire National Park, found in Northern Tanzania.
The four park candidates in Africa are renowned for their elephants’ population, the size of jumbos and how they attract visitors, researchers and other scientists to either gaze or study the giant land mammals.
Tarangire, mapped within the Arusha and Manyara Regions of Northern Tanzania holds the crown of having the highest concentration of elephants.
The Tanzania Wildlife Research Institute counted 1,088 individuals.
The field survey exposed a general presence of many elephants’ herds estimated at 26 families.
The baobab dotted National Park also boasts species of Jumbos that are larger than life when it comes to size.
Kenya’s Amboseli National Park, formerly Maasai Amboseli Game Reserve, is found in Oloitoktok Division of Kajiado County, is also a jumbo paradise.
The conservancy measuring 392.06 kilometers square, is home to 58 families of elephants marching in an ecosystem that spreads across the Kenya and Tanzania border.
On the other hand, the Addo Elephant National Park of South Africa boasts more than 600 free roaming Jumbos, as well as cape buffaloes.
But is the Hwange National Park of Zimbabwe which has the lion share of elephants in not only Africa, but the world as whole with around 45,000 free roaming jumbos sighted in the conservancy.
Still, there is more to the voting than the sheer number of gigantic mammals, the experience, the atmosphere and how the adventures in the contesting parks are packaged is what will define the winning entry.
