Tanzania sends female soccer players to the African Women Cup 2025 in Nairobi, Kenya

Tanzania is sending a team of female soccer players to Kenya, where they will participate in the second instalment of the African Women Cup, organized by the Homeless World Cup and which is being staged in Nairobi City.

As it happens, last year, Tanzania hosted the maiden African Women Cup in Arusha, where Uganda emerged the overall winner, beating eight other countries, including the host that participated in the games.

This time a delegation of 13 Tanzanian sports envoys from Arusha, comprising 10 players and 3 officials, will again be traveling to Nairobi, on the 25th of June 2025 for the African Women Cup 2025.

This year’s African Women Cup event takes place from the 28th to the 29th of June 2025 in the Kenyan Capital City.

Tanzania is among the eight country that are confirmed members for the Homeless World Cup, which organizes the African Women Cup and was in fact granted the honor to host the inaugural soccer event in 2024.

The country has joined the Homeless World Cup initiative through the Future Stars Academy (FSA) of Arusha.

Speaking in Arusha, Eva Mmary the FSA Coach who trains the women soccer team said, this kind of soccer sport, targets mostly disadvantaged young female footballers taken aboard to be given various skills in sports.

It also enhances life skills and sports for physical and mental health.

Last year, the Ugandan women team took the trophy after thrashing the host country Tanzania, a whopping 6-1 during the final match played on 30th of June 2024.

The first Africa Women Cup, organized by the Homeless World Cup was held at the Arusha International Conference Centre (AICC) grounds in Kijenge ward of Arusha.

It is a special kind of soccer played in cubicles and featuring just eight players, four on each side of the game.

For the 2025 event again, all the eight teams from around the continent will be competing in the Second Africa Women Cup in Kenya.

Participating countries for the Africa Women Cup 2025 include the host Kenya, the previous host, Tanzania and the inaugural winners Uganda. Others are Malawi, Zambia, Zimbabwe, Namibia and South Africa.

The Nairobi games are among the starting events for the Homeless World Cup’s newest tournament as the Foundation looks to grow the women’s game in Africa and globally, supporting those who need it the most.

At least this is according to James McMeekin the Chief Operating Officer for the Homeless World Cup Foundation.

“The First Women Africa Cup targets to protect vulnerable women from exploitation,” Mc Meekin had previously stated.
