Kenyan popular televangelist bishop, who is famous for performing miracles kinetically, has just been killed in a tragic road accident, on Tuesday, the 17th of June 2025.
Bishop Gilbert Deya, according to the police statement, was among the victims of the tragic road accident which occurred at the busy Namba Kapiyo section along the main road linking Kisumu and Bondo near Holo.
A speeding semi-trailer truck reportedly lost its brakes, swerved and crashed into Bishop Deya’s car, an expensive Sub-Utility Vehicle (SUV), which was also written off on the spot.
Bishop Gilbert Deya is a Kenyan televangelist known for claiming to facilitate “miracle pregnancies” through prayer, a practice that led to significant controversy and legal challenges.
In 2023 he got extradited from the United Kingdom after facing charges of child trafficking but got acquitted due to lack of substantial evidence.
According to reports from eyewitnesses, the 72-year-old preacher was driving in his SUV when the fatal crash happened. The trailer is said to have lost its brakes and hit his vehicle, leading to his death.
The lorry also overturned after the impact.

Photos from the scene, making rounds on social media platforms, show a mangled wreck of the luxury SUV, with the roof crushed and windows shattered.
Other vehicles were also involved in the multiple road crashes.
Pastor Deya rose to fame in the early 2000s over the “miracle babies” saga, a controversial claim that infertile women could miraculously conceive through prayer.
Investigations later revealed that the babies were allegedly stolen from hospitals and poor families, sparking one of the most shocking scandals in Kenya’s religious circles.
