President Museveni hold talks with German envoy to Uganda, clearing the air over Muhoozi outbursts
The President of Uganda, Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has finally held a meeting with the German Ambassador to Kampala, Matthias Schauer.
The meeting was held at Museveni’s residential residence in Nakasero, where the two discussed ways to enhance bilateral relations in trade, investment, technology, and sports development.
But the meeting of the two officials was also taking place amid ongoing protests organized by supporters of the Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU) outside the German Embassy in Kampala.
The irate marching and shouting crowd was trying their best to scream accusations against the German envoy, claiming that Ambassador Schauer was interfering in Uganda’s internal affairs.
But a statement from the Ugandan presidency reaffirmed both countries’ commitment to deepening their long-standing partnership; with President Museveni emphasizing the importance of cooperation based on mutual respect and shared development goals.
For his part, Ambassador Schauer expressed optimism about the future of the countries’ bilateral relations.
This diplomatic encounter follows accusations by the PLU, a party led by the usual blatant speaker, General Muhoozi Kainerugaba, an army leader who also happens to be the son of President Museveni, that the German ambassador was involved in alleged activities threatening Uganda’s security.
Muhoozi Kainerugaba claims were previously also echoed by Ugandan security agencies.
While the meeting was underway, supporters of the Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU) were staging a demonstration outside the German Embassy, led by the movement’s Director of Mobilization, one Michael Mawanda, in an escalation reflecting growing opposition to what they described as “foreign interference in national sovereignty.”
