At least 28 people are feared dead with scores of others seriously injured in a tragic road accident which occurred in Mbeya Region, Southern Tanzania, on the night of Saturday, June 7, 2025.
Reports from the scene of the accident reveal that a truck carrying a consignment of maize flour hit a Mitsubishi Rosa passenger minibus, before crashing onto another private car along the Iwambi hill escarpments.
The lorry, which possibly suffered brake failures, swerved and collided with the bus and the other vehicle in the dark hours of June 7, 2025, along the main Tanzania-Zambia (TAZAM) motorway.
The Semi-trailer truck being driven by one Philip Mwashibanda is believed to have been on its way from Tunduma border heading to Songwe region when it crashed onto the two vehicles.
The Mbeya Regional Police Commander, Benjamin Kuzaga has confirmed the incident, adding that eight people were admitted in hospital after suffering injuries in the incident.
The Iwambi Hill escarpments is a notorious hotspot for accidents such that local residents have always wondered why the authorities in the precinct are not doing anything to adjust this dangerous section of road which continues to claim lives in Southern Tanzania.
