Libya established Truce Committee to address clashes in Tripoli

The Presidential Council and the United Nations Support Mission in Libya have convened the first meeting of the newly established Truce Committee at Abu Sitta Naval Base.

The session was chaired by Lieutenant General Mohammed Al-Haddad, who serves as the Chief of Staff of the western region’s military forces.

Al-Haddad, appointed under the Western region unity Government is a Misrata-based figure with a revolutionary background rather than a formal academic military education.

The committee, according to the information from the sessions, aims at de-escalating tensions in Tripoli, preventing renewed conflict, and ensuring civilian protection.

So far, more than100 people have been killed, with score others injured and many displaced by the clashes that have engulfed the Libyan Capital recently.

But in another development, the Prime Minister of Western region government, Abdul Hamid Dbeibah is continuing his meetings with regional tribal leaders to gain support in his efforts to remove armed militias.

After meeting with leaders from Misrata, Minister Abdul Hamid Dbeibah held further discussions with tribal representatives from Tarhuna, Zliten, and Zintan.

These meetings come as Dbeibah faces growing tension with local armed groups that were previously allied with his government.

During the series of meetings and related talks, the Prime Minister stressed the importance of national unity and the need to bring all weapons and armed forces under official state control.

He warned that the presence of independent militias poses a serious threat to Libya’s stability.
