Tanzanian Activist abducted, leaving a pool of blood in his bedroom

A popular Tanzanian activist and author, Mdude Nyangali Mpaluka, has been abducted from his home in Mbeya, leaving a pool of blood in the bedroom.

A trail of blood followed the entire route which the abductors had been dragging the activist, possibly towards the vehicle which was used to carry him away.

Neighbors say Mdude was badly beaten as unknown assailants invaded his home deep in the night of 1st May 2025, and it is unlikely that he survived the ordeal.

The President of the Tanganyika Law Society (TLS) Advocate Boniface Mwabukusi posted a video showing a trail of blood at the activist’s home taken during the horror night of abduction.

Advocate Boniface Mwabukusi wrote “We are no longer safe in Tanzania!”

The Head of the Moravian Church of Revival, Bishop Emmaus Bandekile Mwamakula wrote that a few days earlier some police officers had gone round to Mdude’s home, looking for the activist, who was however not around then.

The Chama Cha Demokrasia na Maendeleo (CHADEMA) insists that people who identified themselves as police officers broke into Nyangali’s home at night and started beating him up before dragging the activist out, bleeding profusely.

He was crying to neighbors to come and rescue him, but people were scared to come out and confront the gang of attackers believed to have been in uniform.

Mdude’s wife, Sije Mbugi Emmanuel, was captured in another video clip with a baby of her back, screaming for help. She said the abductors said they were police officers and stormed into their house 2 hours past midnight on May 2, 2025.

But the Police in Mbeya Region called a press conference through which they denied having anything to do with Mdude’s arrest or abduction, calling for anybody with information regarding his disappearance to come forth.

Godbless Lema, one of the top rankings Chadema officials posted on his page saying he had contacted the Mbeya Regional Administrative Secretary who informed him that they were at Mdude’s house with the Regional Crime Officer (RCO) taking blood samples and other artefacts that may help them trace the whereabout of the activist.

But Lema expresses fear that it is possible that the abductors have already killed Mdude.

Mdude Nyangali, who lives in Mbeya, Southern Tanzania, is a political activist who focuses on civil rights and good governance who has been always condemning attacks and abductions in Tanzania.

His enforced disappearance case is among the series of horrid attacks targeting members of the opposition and activists in Tanzania.

Mdude’s last post on his Twitter (X) account was about the assault on the Catholic cleric Father Charles Kitime which is strongly condemned.

Just a day before the Mbeya incident, the outspoken Secretary General of the Tanzania Episcopal Conference (TEC) Father Charles Kitima was ambushed, beaten and badly wounded by a gang of mysterious people at the TEC premises in Dar-es-salaam.

The US Embassy in Tanzania has strongly condemned the attack on the cleric, insisting that people had the right to freedom of expression and opinion.

Ambassadors of Ireland and Sweden have both expressed shock, on the ongoing assaults saying violence was unacceptable.

A Muslim cleric, Sheikh Ponda Issa Ponda has also vehemently spoken against the incident which has left the Catholic Priest seriously injured and currently hospitalized.
