Former U.S Ambassador to Tanzania, Michael Battle banned from Twitter

Former Ambassador of the United States of America to Tanzania, Michael Battle has been banned from Twitter, a platform now known as ‘X.’

Why the X platform decided to Excommunicate Ambassador Battle remains a mystery but judging by the comments by followers of the former envoy’s LinkedIn page, it must have been something which Battle wrote which irked the Elon Musk owned platform.

“If you see anything on ‘X’ using my name, then it is not me, because I have been banned from X (Twitter),” wrote the former US ambassador to Tanzania, Michael Battle.

Some of the comments on his LinkedIn were to the effect that the last post which Ambassador Battle wrote on ‘X’ explored his freedom of expression before he got locked out of the platform.

The envoy has served as the U.S Ambassador to Tanzania from February 2023 to January 2025 and as he was leaving Tanzania, Battle expressed gratitude to the country and its people for the hospitality accorded to him and his wife Mrs Linda Battle during their two-year long tenure.

Born in 1950, at Saint Louis in Missouri, Ambassador Michael A. Battle Senior is an American diplomat, chaplain, and academic administrator who previously served as the U.S envoy to the African Union between 2009 and 2013.

Battle was also a Senior adviser at the U.S Department of State as well as the Executive Vice President of the National Underground Railroad Freedom Center (NURFC).

Battle was later appointed by the former U.S President Joe Biden to serve as United States ambassador to Tanzania in August 2021.

Hearings were held on his nomination before the Senate Foreign Relations Committee in May 2024 and by June 9, 2022, the committee favorably reported his recommendation to the Senate which confirmed him by voice vote on December 13, 2022.

He was sworn in on December 21, 2022, and flew to Dar-es-salaam where he presented his credentials to President Samia Suluhu Hassan on February 27, 2023.

Tanzania is yet to get a replacement for Michael Battle at the U.S Embassy in Dar-es-salaam.
