The President of Rwanda, Paul Kagame has slammed his DR Congo counterpart, Felix Tshisekedi for failing to show up at the Dar-es-salaam meeting held to address the conflict in his own country.
President Tshisekedi apparently did not appear at the joint Heads of State summit which brought together leaders of both the East African Community (EAC) and South African Development Community to try and quell the ongoing fighting in the DR Congo.
With Tshisekedi missing out from the meeting, he chose instead to follow the proceedings virtually.
The Rwanda President Paul Kagame has thus castigated the DR Congo leader, saying Félix has shown little or no commitment to the cause for attaining peace in eastern DRC.
Speaking during an interview with Jeune Afrique, Kagame said that while efforts were being made by the Southern and Eastern African regional bodies for dialogue between the two countries, Tshisekedi purposedly chose to be absent from the SADC-EAC summit.
According to Kagame, the DR Congo leader instead went to solicit military support from Chad to continue fighting against the coalition of rebels led by the M23 troops.
As far as Kagame is concerned, President Tshisekedi has proven that he would rather go to war than finding a peaceful solution through dialogue as recommended by the joint EAC and SADC summit held in Tanzania.
The Rwandan leader said Kinshasa seems to be uninterested in addressing the security crisis in North Kivu and the ongoing tensions between DR Congo and Rwanda.
Paul Kagame says he is still committed to dialogue even though Tshisekedi continues to prove he is more interested in going to war with Rwanda.
“Felix Tshisekedi prefers to reach out to Chad and seek military support from there instead of joining his fellow East African leaders in search of peace. This clearly defines his intentions. For him, the solution is military, while for some of us we would rather come up with peaceful resolutions,” Kagame maintained.
