Tanzania is launching new prints of the country’s bank notes that go into effect from the first day of February 2025.
The newly minted paper bills come in the various denominations starting with the lowest value of 1000/- bluish bills, the middle of the road, 2000/-, brownies, the second highest 5000/- violet notes and the uppermost 10,000/- red bills.
The Governor of the Central Bank of Tanzania (BoT), Emmanuel Tutuba, however points out that the designs of the new transaction bills are still based on the 2010 releases, with some minor updates on their inscriptions.
According to the Governor, the only differences appearing in the new paper money are the two sets of signatures.
Signing off
“We have replaced the old signets belonging to the former head of the Bank of Tanzania, Prof Florens Luogo with the new monograms inked by the new governor, that’s me, Emmanuel Tutuba,” revealed the BoT boss.
Tutuba added that the old monograms featuring the signature of Vice President, Philip Mpango, during his time as the Minister of Finance, have also been replaced with the autographs belonging to the current Finance Minister, Mwigulu Lameck Nchemba.

However, despite the minor alterations the new bills will still be used alongside the ones currently in use and that are to be gradually taken out of circulation as time goes by, therefore people need not panic and rush to exchange what they have in their pockets for the fresh leaves rolling out of the mint press in February.
In fact few people will be able to tell the difference between the old and new bank notes.
On the other hand, the Bank of Tanzania (BoT) had previously taken out of the print the basic green 500/- denomination bank notes, which have since been replaced with silver coins.
But the silver coins, including the bronzed 100/- and 200/- as well as the silver 500/- have not been retouched and therefore will not be affected by the minor changes appearing on paper leaves.
