Italian and South Korean Designers to color Swahili Fashion Week in Tanzania

Over 40 Fashion Designers from Tanzania and beyond have been listed to showcase their collections during the 17th edition of Swahili Fashion starting in Dar es Salaam City.

Swahili Fashion week in collaboration with Camera Nazionale della Moda Italiana and the Italian Embassy in Tanzania are presenting the Sustainable Italian design brand Florania to showcase her collections in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania.

Florania is a ready-to-wear independent Italian clothing brand, which apart from being genderless and not depending on season, is also made with environment awareness.

The brand founded in 2021 by Flora Rabitti proposes a project of total look garments, made and designed in a sustainable way, hand-made between Milan (design headquarters) and Mantova (production laboratory).

There will be other Italian brands, Dida Fashions and NoorTribe also coming to showcase their works during the Swahili Fashion week in Dar.

The other international designers displaying their Collection this year include Dida Iterik from Uganda, Jane Jaquin (Mayotte), Kerby Young Designs (Trinidad and Tobago), Kushweet (Kenya) and Rheets Hanbok (South Korea).

“We urge fashion fans to attend so that they can discover what makes Africa beautiful, as the event also champions for clean cooking energy,” said Mustafa Hassanali, the event’s founder and Director. 

The lineup of designers from Tanzania taking onto the stage include Sliq Shedafa, Reen Fashion Flair (from Morogoro), Kai Zuri by Sristi Bosco, Zawadi from Zanzibar, Asili by Naliaka, Reen Collection, Abestina Apparel, Bilan Facon, Nyuzi CAD, M2MOKO(Zanzibar), Zuh Fashion, Jojo African Designs (Dodoma), JESAKUDO, BK Brand,Charm and Elegance, The Seamstress Tanzania, Mkwandule’Son, JVS, Vola Attire,Katty Collection, Redlove Designs, Blackcherry, Fiderine’s House Of Catwalk and Fashion, and Rackel.

Hassanali, says the seventeenth Edition of Swahili Fashion Week & Awards 2024, which is one of Africa’s largest and most prestigious annual fashion events, runs from the 6th to the 8th of December 2024.

 The event takes place at the Parthenon Hall also known as the Greek Hellenic Club along Ali Hassan Mwinyi Road.

With over 40 fashion designers showcasing their work, the event promises to celebrate style, innovation, and African creativity under the theme: “Discover What Makes Africa Beautiful.”

There is a bit of an environment oriented theme; “Clean Cooking Energy,” in support of President Samia Suluhu Hassan’s efforts to promote sustainable and eco-friendly energy solutions.

The platform aims to merge fashion with advocacy, highlighting the role of creativity in driving social and raising environmental awareness.

Since its inception in 2008, Swahili Fashion Week has been a beacon for designers from Swahili-speaking countries and beyond, providing a platform to showcase their collections, market their creativity, and connect with the global fashion industry.

Over the years, the event has cemented its position as a key driver of African fashion, blending cultural heritage with modern design to inspire audiences worldwide.

Swahili Fashion Week & Awards 2024 dwells on sustainability in fashion.

Designers will showcase collections that integrate eco-friendly materials, ethical production methods, and circular design, emphasizing the “Made in Africa” spirit.

Organizers say the goal is to position African fashion as a leader in sustainable practices, demonstrating how the continent’s rich heritage can contribute to a greener global future.

Swahili Fashion Week has been a premier platform since its inception in2008, bringing together designers from Swahili-speaking countries and beyond. This year’s lineup includes over 40 fashion designers showcasing exceptional collections that celebrate Africa’s rich heritage and creativity while inspiring global audiences.
