After more than two years without motor racing events in Arusha, the region is bracing to host the fourth round of National Rally Championships in November 2024.

The Arusha Guru Nanak Motor Rally spins the wheels from the 17th of November with the race attracting motorists from around the Eastern Africa region, according to the Arusha Motor Sports Club (AMSC), Chairperson, Goodluck Mariki.

Kenya’s rally legends: Ian Duncan and Azhar Anwar are the surprise entries in the Arusha Guru Nanak Rally, the fourth round of this year’s National Rally Championships.

Both Duncan and Anwar are great names in the continental-level racing showdown and their confirmation to compete in the fourth round has heightened the event.

The Guru Nanak rally is anticipated to be far superior to the previous three rounds of the National Rally Championships that were held in Tanga, Iringa and Morogoro, respectively.

“With Duncan and Anwar already confirmed, we expect the fourth round to have more than seven foreign drivers representing Kenya, Uganda and Zambia,” he notified.

Guru Nanak Rally is the fourth round of this year’s National Rally Championship (NRC) and the one-day event comes after the first three rounds held in Tanga, Iringa and Morogoro.

Prior to the confirmation of the Kenyan duo, the regular entries from outside Tanzania have been Dave Sihoka from Zambia who navigates Gurpal Sandhu of Arusha and the Kenyan, Ravi Chana who navigates Manveer Birdi of Dart es Salaam.

Also a force to reckon with in the chase for the Guru Nanak’s top throne are Moil Team members Yassin Anwar and Ally Katumba  from Uganda who will be parading their driving skills in ultra- modern Ford R5.

“It is good to have the Moil team members as they are also among the continental class drivers from East Africa.

Moil team recently won the Mkwawa Rally of Morogoro, which served as the third round of this year’s National Rally Championship series,” he notified.

Adding, the AMSC Chairman said he expects to have more  than 25 cars  in the season closing event to be flagged off in Makuyuni, about 80 kilometers west of Arusha city on November  17 this year starting with the route  reconnaissance exercise on November 16 this year.

Also confirmed to travel to Arusha for the season’s last round are Tanzanian drivers from Arusha, Dar es Salaam, Kilimanjaro, Morogoro and Tanga regions.
