The Red Devils from Manchester UK, have just conquered the snowcapped Blue Mountain.
Done in aid of Manchester United Foundation, the legendary Bryan Robson who led a team of 23 intrepid trekkers from the United Kingdom to Tanzania managed to conquer the country’s tallest mountain which also happens to be the highest peak on the African Continent.
They all made it onto the Uhuru summit, the highest point on the glacier-covered Kibo Peak of Mount Kilimanjaro, in Moshi Municipality of Kilimanjaro Region in Northern Tanzania, all in aid of the Manchester United Foundation.
Talk of the devil
Captain Marvel’s group braved all the odds in taking onto the tallest free-standing mountain in the world as they tackled the incredible terrains leading up to 5,895 meters above sea level to raise vital funds.
Robbo and the team reportedly spent seven days for the expedition after flying from Manchester Airport and landing at the Kilimanjaro International Airport.
By the time the group landed in Northern Tanzania, they had already received nearly £60,000 from various donations, with all money collected helping to fund the Foundation’s education and community outreach programs.
The initiative is meant to support underprivileged children in the Greater Manchester area and according to Manchester United every penny is appreciated.
Krishan Puvvada is one of the climbers in the fundraising expedition, who says; “My grandmother was born in Tanzania, while my grandfather climbed the mountain in 1958 and I noticed we were at the summit on my birthday – so it was impossible to turn down when all the stars were aligned!”
“It’s the perfect opportunity to challenge myself while supporting a cause and club I deeply believe in. “It’s both a physical and mental test but knowing that I’m helping raise funds to provide opportunities for youth in need makes it all the more meaningful and magical” says another team member Satta.
“This was an incredible journey, both physically and mentally. It is fantastic to collaborate with the Foundation whilst doing something inspiring and meaningful” adds Adriana another trekker for the noble cause.
This is not the first time for Manchester stars to tackle Kilimanjaro for a cause; in 2009 Gary Barlow the front man for the popular Take That Music band did the same, Barlow, who penned ‘Music Made by Humans,’ climbed the mountain together with another boy band star, Ronan Keating of Boyzone.
