All African Cities Go to sleep at night. Except Accra and Lagos.

Are you Insomniac or simply a night owl who feel like enjoying life long after the sun has set?

Well, if that is the case, Africa may not exactly be the place you want to be.

That is because there are only two cities on the continent that have managed to defy darkness and have a notable nightlife.

Lagos, the former capital of Nigeria has been ranked by the Time Out Magazine as the 6th best city in the world for NightLife as far as the 2024 ranking is concerned.

This therefore means that Nigeria leads in Africa for those vibrant nocturnal reveling and possibly also ‘after dusk’ shopping.

On the other hand, Accra, the Capital of Ghana found its way globally into the 10th position as far as night life is concerned, becoming the second and the last urban precinct on the continent to feature a vibrant lifestyle come day or night.

Apparently, neither Johannesburg in South Africa nor Nairobi city of Kenya, have been able to make it into the 2024 global list of cities with active nightlife.

Harare, Cape-Town and Dar-es-salaam they all reach out for blankets whenever darkness looms, making the ‘Dark Continent’ adage fit Africa’s definition snugly.

The rest of the world have adequate cities that are maintaining daytime activities throughout the night.

As expected, Rio de Janeiro City of Brazil tops the global list as being the most active city during the night.

Following up, is Manilla City in the Philippines which is the second urban center in the world with vibrant nightlife.

The Berlin City of Germany comes third in the world among the leading cities with active nightlife.

On the fourth position is the Guadalajara City of Mexico, described to be among the top five metropolitans that happen to be a paradise for nocturnal revelers.

The City of Austin, in the Texas state of the United States was ranked fifth in the list of best places to be for nightlife.

As we have seen, Lagos City of Nigeria takes the sixth position globally.

In the seventh position is the Rotterdam City of Netherlands, which is also a place to reckon with as far as nightlife is concerned.

At Number eight there is Manchester City, in the UK, which is the home to Man U soccer team and Take That music group has also made it into the top ten global listing of urban centers with enjoyable nightlife.

The Budapest City of Hungary takes the ninth position, while Accra, Ghana closes the top ten rankings in the Time Out Magazine list.

Worth mentioning cities that also never go to sleep at night include the Bunos Aires of Argentina, the Taipei City of Taiwan and Singapore City of Singapore in South Asia.
