As Tangayika Law Society hits 70 years milestone: Jubilant Boniface Mwabukusi is the new TLS President

Tanzania’s charismatic lawyer, advocate Boniface Mwabukusi is the new President of the country’s mainland bar association after recording landslide victory in the General Election.

The new TLS President, Boniface Kajunjumele Mwabukusi raked in a total of 1274 votes, against his closest opponent, Sweetbert Nkuba who managed to get 807 counts in the General Elections held in Dodoma City, the second day of August.

The polls form part of the Bar Association’s Annual General Meeting (AGM). Mwabukusi will reign over TLS for the next three years.

Others who raced for the top slot in the TLS election include Ibrahim Bendera (58), Paul Kaunda (51), Emmanuel Muga (18) and Revocatus Kuuli (07).

There were previous attempts to bar Advocate Mwabukusi from contesting, but he managed to beat the odds through a successful appeal.

Born in Kandete ward of Tukuyu Division in the Rungwe District of Mbeya region, the learned friend, is the Managing Partner at BAK-Mwabukusi Chambers Advocate.

Founded in 1954 through an Act of Parliament; the Tanganyika Law Society Ordinance the TLS serves as the Bar association of Tanzania Mainland.

As it happens, the Tanganyika Law Society is also celebrating its 70th Anniversary this year.

 The Tanganyika Law Society is currently governed by the Tanganyika Law Society Act, Cap 307 R.E. 2002.
