Mount Kilimanjaro, Ngorongoro Crater, Front 2022 World Travel Awards Picks.

Nominations for the 2022 World Travel Awards have started and already Mount Kilimanjaro and Ngorongoro Crater have taken the front seats, vieing for the continent’s best tourist attraction title. Serengeti is also returning to defend its 2021 crown as Africa’s Best National Park.

Mount Kilimanjaro, together with the Ngorongoro Crater, are the two tourist destinations from Tanzania that have just been nominated again (by default), for the 2022 World Travel Awards.

Kilimanjaro and Ngorongoro are once more slotted in the 29th round of the World Travel Awards (WTA) to vie for the crown in the Africa’s Best Tourist Attraction, category.

They will compete against the 2021 winner, the Table Mountain of South Africa which returns to the race in 2022, by default, for being the defending title holder. Nelson Mandela’s prison, the Robben Island also competes under this category.

The Pyramids of Giza, Egypt that competed last year, are not listed but according to organizers, nominations are still going on.

The Serengeti National Park, which won Best National Park in Africa during the 2021 World Travel Awards, has also been re-entered to compete under the same category, by default.

Serengeti is competing against its Northwards Kenyan sibling, Maasai Mara Game Reserve and South Africa’s Kruger National Park, the runner ups in the category during the 2021 event.

Tanzania’s Precision-Air will once more try its luck in the continent’s Best economy airline category. The Jullius Nyerere International, on the other hand will be playing its card again in vieing for the Leading African Airport Award in 2022, having lost to Kenya and South Africa in 2021.

“It is with great pleasure that we open the 29th annual World Travel Awards for Africa entries. The winner and 2 runners up from 2021 re-qualify automatically for the 2022 award. Voting opens on the 4th April 2022 when all of the short-listed nominees for Africa 2022 are to be announced. Entries will close on 27th March 2022.”

The just announced walk-over primary WTA nominations also has Zanzibar returning to defend its crown in the Africa’s leading Beach Destination which the Islands won during the World Travel Awards of 2021.

Tanzania will also run again for Africa’s Leading Destination Category, a continental top title which the country won in the October 2021 awards’ results, beating Kenya and South Africa.

Kenya, however eventually managed to win the overall World Leading Destination during the final WTA closing awards announced in December 2021.

    Ngorongoro, the only unbroken Caldera with wildlife inside, is amazing if you want to have Adventure lifetime visit.
